Planet Earth: Amazing nature scenery

Someone created this amazing video out of a BBC’s Planet Earth TV series.

Yosemite Winter Night

In this evocative night skyscape a starry band of the Milky Way climbs over Yosemite Valley, Sierra Nevada Range, planet Earth. Jupiter is the brightest celestial beacon on the wintry scene, though. Standing nearly opposite the Sun in the constellation Taurus, the wandering planet joins yellowish Aldebaran and the Hyades star cluster. Below, Orion always comes up sideways over a fence of mountains. And from there the twin stars of Gemini rise just across the Milky Way. As this peaceful winter night began, they followed Auriga the charioteer, its alpha star Capella near the top of the frame.

National Geographic: Best of December 2011

National Geographic has selected Best Images of December 2011 from images that were uploaded by its users in December 2011. This is the one I like the most, and I am simply amazed by the familiar pattern that exists in nature. :)
Desert Trees

Rivers form tree-like shapes in the desert in Baja California, Mexico, in a picture submitted to National Geographic’s My Shot in December.

Quechua – We all need warmth

I am testing how to post video here. :)

Here is another video clip:
making of “WE ALL NEED WARMTH”

It seems that there are two ways to post video clips.
The first way is to use tag. It is a good way to embed the video clip into the paragraph.
The other way is to simply copy and paste the URL. It is the simplest/easiest way to share a video clip quickly.

Update: They don’t work in IE.

Mysterious Mammal

ZSL releases the first known footage of the long-eared jerboa in the wild, an extraordinary mammal found in the deserts of Mongolia and China. The tiny creature looks like a mouse-sized kangaroo with enormous ears.

I have to say that the long-eared jerboa is one of cutest mammals. Sadly similar to many cute mammals, the long-eared jerboa is classified as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, with habitat disturbance the species’ key threat. I think Jerboa’s long ears, which is about one third bigger than its head, seem to be a pair of wings on its head. The next step of its evolution may be to glide in the air with its ears, like Disney’s Dumbo, the Flying Elephant. Others (like Dr Jonathan Baillie, ZSL Head of Field Conservation and leader of the expedition) think it is like the Mickey Mouse of the desert. What do you think? =)

In addition, be sure to check out video footage at EDGE Blog.
