Wood Frogs

Today I watched Nova ScienceNow on my local PBS station.
One of things that I saw was an amazing frog, which is very common across North Amercia including Canada. This frog can/will be frozen in the winter, and in the spring, it will defrosts and then immediately mates within 24 hours. No, I am not a frog lover, but I am really impressed. You probably will be as impressed as I if you have chance to see the program, the fast forwarding the process of defrosting. (Wondering how they get the energy to mate afterward, or maybe … just maybe it is part of defrosting process. :D)

For those who like to know more about the frozen frogs, feel free to visit the site. Also, you can download a short segment of the program to see how amazing the frog is.

I know it is amzing. When a wood frog is frozen in winter, it does not breathe, nor does it have heartbeat. Some years ago, people discovered a "ice man" in the Alps in Austria I think. That man was frozen in glacier for thousands of years.Just imagine a man like that is frozen completely without breath or heartbeat, and suddently come back to live … :DYeah … those frogs do that every winter … :)
